It is situated on the littoral zone of Noratus peninsula and the riverhead of the Gavaraget River, covering an area of 845 ha, of which 552 ha- terrestrial and 293-aquatic. The total length of the boundary is 26.4 km. Territory of the sanctuary stretches with 7.5 km length and 0.5-3.5 km width.

The objective of the sanctuary is to ensure conservation of residual lakes near the estuary of the Gavaraget River, bird nests on the littoral part of Noratus peninsula and also spawning and the development of the valuable and unique fish species.
