It is situated in southeastern part of the national park near the riverheads of Gilli channel, the Masrik and Geghamasar rivers, and covers an area of 1810 ha, of which the terrestrial part covers   1325 ha and the aquatic part- 485 hectares. The total length of the boundary is 23.3 km. The area of the reserve extends for about 10.4 km length and 1.8km width. The objective of the reserve is to ensure conservation of riverheads of the Masrik and Geghamasar rivers for spawning and development of valuable and unique fish species and conservation of adjacent wetlands as a nesting area for birds.
